The Himalayan Ibex is an animal living in the Rocky Mountains so they are seen wandering in the hilly mountain pastures of Hindukush mountains and Himalayas. They have big, curved horns and heavy bodies and are seen in a group of herds at higher elevations of around 3500 ft above sea level. Their horns have notches and they shed their coats during the summer season. They are mostly dark brown in appearance and feed on green grass and mountain pastures. They weigh around 100 kgs and stand at around 30 inches tall growing to a maximum height of 40 inches.
Where do you find Himalayan Ibex?
The Himalayan Ibex, a rare quality of species in the deer family is found in Central Asia in places like Kibber, Pin valley, and Spiti valley of India.
They have rings around their horns and are seen in areas covered by little forests where they roam around with their groups in search of food and water. There are normally five species of Ibex that are identified and are found in different corners of the world with Alpine Ibex being the most common species. They have seen grazing in alpine meadows and mountain pastures and are spotted during the late morning and afternoon hours with their herds.
The Himalayan Ibex is popularly found in most areas of Pakistan and its population grows each year so there is no fear of extinction of its species. They are seen in plenty in areas where there is very little or no grass. The Ibex is normally traced around alpine meadows in other places where they have a good chance of survival. During the winters, they move to other areas as they cannot survive in snow and adverse climatic conditions.
They are seen in groups and not alone in the hilly slopes of Pin Valley and Kibber village along with other herds. Their appearance is different and they have don’t resemble any similarities with other and small species of the deer family.
