It’s an unusual and unique feature to spot mountains covered with white sand dunes. Such is the fascination and alchemy of the Trans-Himalayan ranges near Leh, India. Usually, every mountain peak has its charisma and enthrallment, but the magic of spotting mountains covered with sand dunes is subtle and sporadic in any corner of the world. There are sand dunes, including the coastal dunes, but the white sand dunes are unique and not prevalent in other parts of the country.
How are sand dunes formed?

The dunes occupy a significant part of the region and come from the Shyok River, which is located close to the area. White sand dunes are naturally formed in Hunder village, about 10 km from the Diskit monastery.
